You were left in charge of a Pokémon Daycare for a few days, because the old couple who watched over it were on a short vacation. You got to play and look after the Pokémon, which you loved.

Two Pokémon came out from their little corner, the mother holding a little egg. They went over to you, showing off their egg proudly to you. You took it into your arms and hugged it. "What are Pokémon eggs?" You asked them. They looked at you, but didn't respond. The egg you held was warm.

You gently caressed the smooth surface, tracing the patterns that ran along it idly. You kept repeating that question in your mind. What are Pokémon eggs? You thought. You sighed in frustration. A million questions whirled in your brain. You wanted answers, but no one could provide any for you.

"[Name]! What's up?" Gold's voice jarred you out of your thoughts. "The old couple that runs the daycare left me in charge." You explained. You handed the Pokémon egg to your spiky haired friend. He cradled it in his arms, smiling.

You knew that Pokémon eggs took on the characteristics and habits of the person who spent the most amount of time with it as an egg. Since Gold took care of most of them, they all had similar personalities as him. As a skilled Hatcher, he could even pass his own will and emotions to them, which you admired.

"Gold, what are Pokémon eggs?" You asked him. He looked at you, then stared back at the egg. "I have no idea." He replied. "I've heard that it's less of an egg and more of a cradle to the baby Pokémon inside, but no one has actually seen how they're made." He said. "I wouldn't think about it too much, though. Don't worry about it."

You were amazed at his knowledge. Usually, Gold was a very laid-back person, who liked flirting with 'the pretty ladies' out there, and a mischievous rule-breaking troublemaker. Occasionally, he would have a stroke of ingenuity and surprise everyone around him. Then, he would go back to his usual self.

"But, why? Pokémon eggs reflect their Hatchers. Does that mean that they're actually alive? What makes them do that?" You fired a million more questions at your golden eyed companion. Gold held his head. "You're making my head hurt. Stop overthinking it, [Name]." He groaned.

"I really want to know, though." You sighed. "If the world wanted you to know, you would know it already. Come one, let's give the egg back to its parents." He said, getting up. As he walked over, a line appeared on the egg. It began to crack.

"Gold! It's hatching!" You cried. He shot you a look that said, 'no, really?' Gold sat back down on the ground, placing the egg in front of him. It trembled and shook, bits and pieces of the egg flying everywhere. Eventually, the baby Pokémon broke free, yawning.

"Aww!" You squealed. It looked at you and tried to stand, stumbling. Its parents came over, helping it up. You took the baby in your arms and hugged it gently, and it played with your hair. It seemed fascinated with your long locks of hair.

Suddenly, the parents waved and left. You tried to follow, but Gold stopped you with a hand on your arm. You blushed, but he didn't seem to notice. "I don't know why, but I feel like they want us to take care of their kid." He said, looking at the baby Pokémon in your arms.

It fell asleep, nuzzled in your hair. You didn't know how to react. You were thrilled that you could take care of your own baby Pokémon, but you wondered why its original parents wanted you and Gold to take care of it. "Maybe it was because they thought we would be good parents." Gold said, smiling none-too-innocently.

"Parents?" You asked, blushing some more. He came a bit closer to you. "Oh, yes. Parents." He purred into your ear, emphasizing the word 'parents.' You shivered. Gold was always a bit of a pervert to most people, but you found it to be kind of charming.

Gold placed his fingers beneath your chin and kissed you. You melted instantly, kissing back. You could feel him smile victoriously as he deepened it. His arms snaked around your arms, and it left your skin tingling. The Hatcher licked your lip, and a jolt went down your spine. You reluctantly backed away, gasping.

"G-Gold. Not here, in front of the Pokémon." You mumble. If the Pokémon here could wolf whistle, you'd be embarrassed to no end. Still, the looks that they gave you were enough.

"Am I too much for you?" Gold asked, smiling devilishly. If it was possible, you became even redder. "N-no. Well, kind of." You stammer, backing away slightly. "We need to take care of the baby Pokémon." You said, trying to weasel your way out of the awkward situation.

You tried to occupy yourself by putting your baby Pokémon to bed, but that didn't take very long. "Are you done?" He asked. You nodded, and he whisked you off your feet, carrying you to his house nearby. He set you down on his couch and kissed you, almost hungrily. But this time, you savored it.

Gold pulled away, to your confusion. "[Name], I wonder why they left us in charge. I don't know about you, but I'm not the most responsible person in the world." He wondered. "Shut up, Gold. Don't worry about it." You muttered, kissing him this time. When you parted, he grinned.

"Ooh, I'm rubbing off onto you. This will be fun." He said.

What happens next is up to you to decide.

Stop thinking too much. It's best if you don't know everything in the world.
Really, what are Pokémon Eggs anyway?

The world may never know.

As for the Pokémon that hatched, I purposefully did not say what it was. For me, I imagined it as two Azumarill and a baby Azurill.
